Pokemon Platinum is largely lauded as one of the best games in the series. While this game is an exciting experience as is, it can be greatly improved by utilizing cheat codes. In this article, we’ve compiled all the cheat codes you’ll need to get the most out of platinum version.

How to Activate Cheat Codes

In order to use cheat codes in Pokemon Platinum version, you’ll need to be playing with either an emulator or an action replay. Fortunately, the emulators you can find for a PC or for your phone use the same format as action replay codes.

Activating Codes (Step by Step)

1. Open Emulator
2. Run Pokemon Platinum
3. Select ‘Setup Cheat Codes’ or ‘ in system settings
4. Create a new AR code
5. Copy a code from our list below into the text box.
6. Make sure that codes you want enabled are checked.

Since tracking down an action replay, a functioning Nintendo DS, and a copy of Pokemon Platinum is prohibitively expensive these days, we’ll just be talking about the process you’ll be using for an emulator. Don’t worry though, you’ll be able to use these codes in your action replay just as easily.

Once you have your emulator loaded up, you’ll want to go to the System drop down bar and select ‘Setup cheat codes’. The actual location may differ from emulator to emulator, but the premise remains the same.

In the image below, we’re playing Pokemon Platinum on the melonDS.

Once you see the cheat code editor, select a category or create and name a new one. With a category selected, you can now click on the ‘New AR code’ button. From there, it’s as simple as naming your new code and copying one of our action replay codes into the box on the right.

As you can see in the images above, our action replay codes are currently checked. This means they are currently active, and running in our game. To turn cheat codes off, simply uncheck the box next to your code.

Turning cheat codes off is important to remember, since having too many cheats activated at the same time can lead to game crashes or corrupted save data. This isn’t too common, but can occur if multiple cheat codes are using the same section of game memory.

Lastly, there are two different types of action replay cheats that we need to concern ourselves with. Active cheats are codes that require us to press certain buttons to activate, while passive cheats (i.e. walk through walls) are constantly on, or at most can be toggled on and off in game.

Item Cheats

These cheats will allow you to obtain items in game, without even stepping a foot in a Pokemon mart.

All Medicine

Use this code to fill your bag with 999 of every medicine (including rare candy). Once the code is enabled, press l r at the same time to activate it. When you look in your bag you should see 999 of every item in the ‘Medicine’ tab.

Battle Items

With this code enabled, press L and R at the same time to fill your bag with 999 copies of all the battle items.

Rare Candy Cheat

This code will give you 999 rare candies in your bag. Keep in mind, this code will remove anything else in the medicine tab of your bag, so don’t use it if you’re looking to keep other medicine items around.

To activate this code, simply press L R at the same time.

Specific Item Cheats

This code generates a specific item and places it in your item bag. To use it, you need to have access to the poketch, as you’ll be using the poke calculator to input information.

With your calculator open and the cheat enabled, enter a number into the calculator. Then, press L R to activate the code.

Pokemon Platinum includes 467 items in the game, so be sure not to enter 468 or higher, unless you’re looking to crash your game with this cheat.

Master Ball Cheat Code

The master ball cheat code puts 999 Master Balls into the Poke balls slot of your bag. To activate, press L and R at the same time. It will remove any other pokeballs you have, but that’s a small price to pay for a 100% catch rate.

Pokemon Encounter Codes

Codes in this section will modify the encounters you see in the game when walking through tall grass or similar areas.

Choose Your Encounter Cheat

This code allows you to set wild encounters to a specific pokemon of your choosing. You’ll need access to the poketch for this code, since we’ll be inputing some values through the calculator app.

Follow these steps to activate the code:

1. Input the national pokedex number of the relevant pokemon
2. Press L
3. Clear the calculator (press the large C button on the calculator)
4. Input the desired pokemon’s level
5. Press R
6. Clear the calculator
7. Input a number from 0-24 to determine the pokemon’s nature
8. Press Select
9. Clear the calculator

Choosing the level and nature are optional. If you stop after step 3, the pokemon will be scaled to the level of the area you’re in, and will have a randomly chosen nature.

To reset back to the normal area encounters, simply leave the area. Otherwise, you will continue to encounter the same pokemon.

Guaranteed Shiny Encounter

Shiny hunting can be tough, but this code makes it effortless. To toggle on guaranteed shiny wild pokemon, go to your Trainer Card and press R and A at the same time. To toggle this off (why would you), just go back to the Trainer Card and press L and A at the same time.

Battle Codes

These codes impact various battle related abilities

Catch Trainer Pokemon

This code allows you to catch other trainers’ pokemon. Once you do so, the battle will immediately end, and the enemy trainer will count as defeated. You don’t have to press any buttons to activate it either, so long as it’s enabled in your emulator, you can catch anyone’s pokemon.

It’s a good idea to use a master ball here, since trained pokemon can be tough to catch.

Full Catch Rate

This code gives all wild pokemon a 100% catch rate, essentially making this an alternative to master balls. Again, this passive code requires no special key input to activate.

Super Exp gain

With this code enabled, any time you defeat a pokemon you’ll recieve far more experience than usual. This is a quick exp cheat that’s often going to feel much faster than dumping rare candies into your pokemon.

Plus, it allows you to still feel like you’re playing pokemon platinum, rather than watching a speedrun.

Infinite Cash Cheat

Technically, this gives you the max cash you can obtain in game, 999999. Still, it’s infinite so long as you continue to use this code whenever you need to be topped off. Simply press L and R to activate it and you’re off to spend as much as you want.

Complete Pokedex Without Catching Pokemon

This interesting cheat fills in the sinnoh pokedex in a more natural way than other cheats. Whenever you encounter a pokemon, it will be marked as caught in your pokedex. Simply press select once this cheat is enabled and any wild pokémon or trainer pokémon will be automatically registered.

Unlock Sinnoh Pokedex

National Pokedex Unlock

This cheat code makes the national pokedex available long before you unlock it in game. It doesn’t complete any entries, it simply gives you the ability to see the pokemon numbers as listed in the national dex. i

Walk Through Walls

The walk through walls cheat is a staple of pokemon games. It allows you to not only walk through walls, but to walk through any terrain. This is great for avoiding pieces of the game, but is the number one cause of crashes for Pokemon Platinum players.
