Orca Handguard for the C39 Micro (2024)

These handguards are colored black and have our blasted finish for a sure grip.

When we were developing this handguard, it was called project “”Orca”” because of color pattern where the white body filler met the black curvature and the name kind of stuck 🙂 The handguard itself is very durable given its significant wall thickness. Since it was based from an original, it has a very snug fit to the pistol. Because it is a tight fit, please note that you will need to use a fine grit foam sanding pad to help you open the handguard up enough to fit – do not force it.

Please note that this handguard is made from solid machinable high-temp urethane. You can mill it and mount a picatinny rail if you want. As a word of advice, please understand all local and federal regulations prior to mounting your desired devices on the rail. For example, adding a vertical handguard would cause the pistol to be reclassified as an “Any Other Weapon” (AOW) by the ATF and require licensing prior to doing so.

It is very important that you remember this is a short handguard. The original design had a curved handguard to purposefully stop a hand from sliding off the handguard and getting in front of the barrel. If you decide to use this handguard, you must be very cautious to not let your hand slide forward in front of the muzzle during rapid fire. We accept to no liability for people who do not heed this warning. Please be careful and have fun shooting responsibly.

To remove the wood handguards, follow these steps:

1. Remove the flash hider

2. Remove the screw at the end of the handguard near the muzzle

3. With a rubber mallet, tap the handguard forward as there is a tab at the end of the handguard that goes into the receiver. Note, the tab is about 3/8″ long.

4. Once it has moved forward and the muzzle can clear the handguard, gently tap it down.

To install the polymer handguard on a C39 Micro:

1. These fit very snugly and you will need to use a finishing file, sandpaper wrapped around a couple of stir sticks or even fine sanding sponges to slowly open up the edges to get it to fit. Please, please, please do the fitting by hand and do not use a Dremel. Take off a bit more, trial fit again and repeat over and over.

2. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the handguard up and then back. Remember, the notch needs to slide in. The mallet is to help it slide together – if you go banging real hard, something is bound to break. Our plastic does not bend or compress – it will crack if you force it.

3. Look through the screw hole in front and look for the tapped hole in the barrel. You need the handguard to sit against the front of the receiver and have the hole in the handguard line up with the hole drilled and tapped in the gas block. Assuming the handguard needs to move forward, then insert a shim. I have never heard of the handguard hole being longer / further forward than the gas block threaded hole.

4. Reinstall the flash hider.

If you need a replacement handguard screw for the C39 Micro, it uses a #8-32×3/8″ socket screw . The handguard uses the same screw that came with your pistol. You can buy a replacement at just about any hardware store such as Ace.
